Google Doodle is celebrating today the 110th birth anniversary of Fearless Nadia and tomorrow (January 9) is her death anniversary incidentally. She was a Bollywood actress and stuntwoman. Her actual name was Mary Ann Evans and she was popularly known by her stage name ‘Fearless Nadia’.
Nadia was born in Perth, Australia in 1908 and came to India when she was just five. She learnt various skills while growing up such as horse riding, gymnastics, fishing, and shooting. Then, she joined the circus where she caught the eye of filmmaker and producer J.B.H. Wadia.
J.B.H. Wadia introduced Nadia to the Bollywood; where her journey began to become the stunt queen of India and she amazed people with her death-defying acts. She got a huge success in Hunterwali (released in 1935) where she showed her stunts to its fullest.
Later on, she married to J.B.H. Wadia in 1961. It is said that the role of Kangana Ranaut in the movie ‘Rangoon’ released in 2017 was inspired by Fearless Nadia. Moreover, she has also starred in movies such as Desh Deepak and Noor-e-Yaman but came in limelight only with Hunterwali.
